As early as 1975 Fiam was making sunbeds wi th unique features for the market of that t ime: leg and back positions could be adjusted independent ly of each other, thereby multiplying the number of possible user positions. These were already advanced products but Francesco Favagrossa real ised that much more could be done for this sector: in the early 1990s he created AMIGO, an icon that many on the market are st i l l tr ying to emulate to this day. Amigo is a revolut ionar y product due to the per fect way i t folds compact ly when closed, and for i ts clean striking appearance when opened out : the true bri l l iance of this I tal ian designed product was recognised by the German Design Counci l at the 2019 Iconic Awards. Amigo is one of those cases where form, funct ion and industrial repeatabi l i ty come together in a single design idea. The complexi ty that resul ts in one single safe, agi le and exci t ing stroke is perhaps the only thing that i t would be right to expect from the design.
